A while back I took one of the auto racing seats that I happen to have laying around and I made a simple base for it so the seat would be stable to sit on and at the proper height. Almost as soon as I made it I realized that it could be much better than it was. Two versions later these photos are of the final version of the chair base. The design is inspired by bridge trusses and space frames made up of a million little triangles.
The frame is very curvy from all angles but the short insert pieces that make all the trangles are all straight. The combination produces an interesting visual effect. A developmental stage to this design is the truss cat perch which proved the concept to be very stiff and structurally sound.
