The little, tiny, short, sub 14" rear ends up in short slot dropouts. I figured out where the axle was going to be based on the gear combination I planned to run and allowed a bit of room on either side. There is about 1/2" to 5/8" of leeway to make room for a new (not stretched out) chain and a small custom made chain tensioner. When designing these, I abandoned idea of those huge hanging dropouts lobes of old in favor of some lighter weight units that would still get the job done right. I always ended up grinding on my dropout anyway so I tried to make it lower profile to hang up on stuff less. Three little holes in each slab augment coolness while shaving those precious grams away. Another stylish touch is the concave tube caps on all of the .049" wall stays. The chainstays are 7/8" OD while the seatstays are a smaller 3/4".
