Mono Loop Stay

This detail shot shows the four piece mono-stay which attaches the chainstays to the bottom bracket shell. Two plates are welded between two tube halves to create a flat-oval (floval) tube. If you were a fan of SE Racing back in the day then you will remember the PK Ripper and the larger Floval Flyer which made use of this shape for the down tube, top tube and the mono-stay. SE had some cool ideas like floval tubing and some incredibly stupid ones (like the quadangle frame). In another small reference to vintage BMX bikes I used a partial loop stay which means that the chainstays are comprised of one bent tube which loops around the tire. This partial looped feature was found on a few different frame designs, most notably those by Gary Littlejohn and Mongoose. Full loop designs and loops that faced the other way (towards the dropouts) were used by many more companies like JMC, Hutch, Patterson, FMF, Webco, SE Racing, etc.
